Sperm MACs: Semen Preparation Techniques, Healthy Sperm Selection Aids
One of the causes of failure in the IVF process is fertilization between eggs and sperm of poor quality, resulting in low fertilization rates, small embryos, or abnormal embryos.
Sperm MACS (Sperm Magnetic Activated Cell Sorting) is a technique that helps to sort sperm that are about to undergo cell death, called apoptosis. Removing these sperm before fertilizing them with eggs will help to select more than 2-3 times more high-quality sperm compared to conventional preparation.
Who should have Sperm MACS done?
- Married couples who have undergone IVF/ICSI many times but have not been successful. The fertilization rate or embryo growth rate was found to be below the threshold.
- The spouse detected by the male partner had an abnormally high level of DNA fracture in sperm.
- The spouse detected by the man had a significant semen abnormality.
The Sperm MACS technique selects high-quality sperm without DNA damage to fertilize the egg by IVF/ICSI, which can increase the fertilization rate and develop into an embryo in the blastosis stage.
