Thonburi Healthcare Group Welcomes H.E. Bounfeng Phoummalaysith, Minister of Health of the Lao PDR

On November 26, 2022, Thonburi Healthcare Group Public Company Limited (THG) had the honor of welcoming H.E. Bounfeng Phoummalaysith, Minister of Health of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, and his delegation during their official visit to Thailand. The visit highlighted the medical advancements of hospitals under THG, including Thonburi Bamrungmuang Hospital, Thonburi Hospital, and Thonburi Burana Hospital, with the aim of fostering collaboration to strengthen healthcare services in the Lao PDR.

The Minister and his team explored Thailand’s progress in medical technology, diagnostics, and treatment, as well as the readiness of Thai hospitals, which are widely recognized as among the world’s leaders in healthcare. The visit served as a platform for exchanging expertise with THG executives to support the development of hospitals in the Lao PDR. The cooperation will begin with two state hospitals in Vientiane — Setthathirath Hospital and Mittaphab Hospital — which are expected to be upgraded with modern facilities, advanced medical systems, and greater accessibility, ensuring people from all walks of life can receive quality healthcare closer to home.

Warmly welcoming the delegation at Thonburi Bamrungmuang Hospital were Mr. Kamolsak Rungcharoenruang, Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Thanya Suwatthanaviroj, Director of the Heart Center, and Dr. Yee Yitsiris, Director of International Projects at Thai Medical Group (TMG). Together, they exchanged perspectives on healthcare innovation and the shared vision of making medical services more accessible and efficient.

The visit also underscored the shared mission between THG and the Lao Ministry of Health — to advance healthcare systems in ways that truly benefit the people. With THG’s longstanding commitment to being a healthcare provider accessible to all, continually innovating with cutting-edge medical technologies, and supporting the professional independence of doctors, this collaboration aligns with the Minister’s vision of healthcare equity for all Lao citizens.

Executives at Thonburi Bamrungmuang Hospital also expressed admiration for the Lao government’s effective management of the COVID-19 pandemic, which kept fatalities low relative to population size. This success was supported by international vaccine donations from countries such as China, the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom, enabling the Lao PDR to provide sufficient vaccinations for its population until the end of 2023. Furthermore, the country successfully produced its own “Molacovir” medication, under WHO supervision, to treat COVID-19 patients, reducing severity and mortality rates.

During the pandemic, THG also extended its support to the Lao PDR by sending volunteer medical teams from Thonburi Bamrungmuang Hospital to Vientiane to care for COVID-19 patients, reinforcing the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
