Treatment can either be medication or surgery depending on the cause of the unusual vaginal bleeding. Medications include:

• Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and mefenamic acid to help control heavy bleeding

• Tranexamic acid to stop excessive menstrual bleeding

• Antibiotics

• Hormonal birth control medications

• Intrauterine device
